ok Wow that's a lot of silver.
silver is valued in 2 ways... Spot Price of Silver "Intrinsic" and the Value placed on the work it's self.
all of the Silver you have had much more Value in the craftsmanship of the silver than the silver it"s self.
Top of the Value Score card is "Maker" who made it.
Who Owned it
What's the condition.
How Aesthetically pleasing is it.
How Old is it.
Add all that up you get a value.
Then You take points off for
Almost any Inscription will bring the value down and by quite a bit... Unless the Name is Historic and dates are important. So Silver Spoons with Grammas Name engraved on it, is worth less than the same spoon With Out her name, or date of birth.. unless she is historically important.
Coins rare or in damn near mint condition bring the best prices.. but Coins take a Hands and Eyes on approach pictures can't help much. It can tell you have a 1897 Carson City Morgan Silver Dollar... but with knowing the "State" you just can't price coins over the net very well.
You have so much... and much of it Historically Significant enough to have it Professionally Appraised.... Yes Spend some Money! That's the only way you'll get the best value. Hit your BANK up, ask them who they use for such things.... Insurance is something you need to HAVE. Your Silver is for the most part on the "Higher End" of the scale. It's will be worth Far More than the cost of a Professional Appraisal. If your BANK won't or can't Help, call a bigger Auction House... like Christie's or Skinner's THEY will tell you if they want to sell it for you.. if they do... you have something very valuable .. I know you do, that's why I'm Passing you on to bigger and smarter boys, than me.
