I recently found this at an estate sale.
It stands 5 3/4" tall and appears to be a spill vase.
There is a tag on it that reads "1803 Giesshubel Porcelain Germany". I do not know if it was originally put there or if the people who ran the estate sale put it there.
On the bottom there is a handwritten message "From (it looks like "you") Xmas 1803."
There are 3 reddish orange lines and to the right of those lines is another word that I can't make it.
The mark is very light so I have sketched what the mark looks like, in the pictures I am enclosing. The mark is in an oval. There is also the number 7142.
The only flaws I see is a couple of spots on the hat where the paint has been rubbed and a rough spot on the top of the vase (one of the points).
I was able to clean the bottom a little, but was afraid of damaging the writing. One of the pictures is before cleaning, the other is after.
A friend in Holland wrote me this: Please note: the Giesshubel factory is NOT a German factry, but a Bohemian. In that time Bohemia was a part of Austria.
I have also been given the names of Nonne & Rosech, Nonne & Rosch, Porzellanmanufaktur Unger, just mention a couple.
Can anyone help me identify this piece?
Also, is it worth anything? It cost under $10 at the estate sale.
Thank you,
Susan
